A fascinating story-based tour and a wondrous encounter with the multi-ethnic, diverse and colorful neighborhood of Nachlaot, just behind the Machane Yehuda market.
The neighborhood is a patchwork quilt of Jewish communities originating in numerous countries and cultures — Ashkenazim and Sephardim, Persians, Yemenites, Greeks, Urfalim, Syrians, Kurds and many more.
Ultra-Orthodox, secular and traditional Jews all live side by side in this tiny area which has become like the Soho of Jerusalem — attracting young people, students, and artists to join its unique community.
As we explore the picturesque alleyways, my personal stories from 10 years spent living here become intertwined with the stories of this distinct neighborhood.
